We all remember when our mother told us to not make that face or it would stick... Although it wasn't true, we still listened to Mom and stopped making that face. In today's fast-paced environment, there are certain health stigmas that we have grown to take seriously.
One, airplane air will make you sick. Studies actually show that there is nothing risky about airplane air. Now if someone is sick and within a few feet of you, you are more likely to catch what that person may have. Airplane air is actually drawn from outside air at a higher altitude which means fewer bacteria or viruses. The cabin's air supply is exchanged 20 times in an hour, which is more than your office. Airplane air is also very dry, which is not a breeding ground for viruses to spread and grow.
Two, cheese will make you constipated. This has been proven incorrect. Your diet is completely the factor that will determine how your digestive reacts.
Three, if you are ill, dairy products will increase your congestion. There has not been one study that can conclude that this myth is correct. Drinking milk may give the sensation of more congestion, but it is only the sensation of the liquid.
Four, tilting your head back will stop a nosebleed. To properly stop a nosebleed you pinch just below the bony bridge of your nose for five to 15 minutes until the bleeding has stopped. Tilting your head back will only cause the bleeding to be sent down your throat which can cause you to choke.
Five, eating protein after a workout will help to build muscles. This is true if it is eaten in moderation. Loading up on protein after a workout is a bad idea. This can dehydrate the body and cause your kidneys to work harder and affect your digestion. So take a little, and get better results.
Six, stress will cause you to have high blood pressure. There is no apparent connection between chronic stress and high blood pressure. In recent studies, it shows that people who have a tendency to be anxious actually have lower blood pressure. The only correlation between stress and high blood pressure will rely solely on your diet.
So, with these six myths busted, take care of yourself and your diet.
